One concern I had was how utterly random the change was. I hear beta testers complaining that they weren't even tested out beforehand to gauge user response to the symbols--whether or not anyone would care for them. (I'm not sure if that's true, though)

It's a community of artists, people who are designed to think creatively. I'm sure someone could have come up with better ideas than a star and a flame.

Of course, it had to be simple (they can't be TOO intricate) but I still think other ideas could have been seen as options. It wouldn't have killed dA staff to put out a "what do you think" and take in replies before deciding on even changing it in the first place.

Anytime someone mentions how dA functions, symbols or anything else, I bring up 2 things;

~ Why, oh, why are we users never notified in advance before changes are made? Even if we have no say in the changes, we can at least be warned a week or so in advance so we're not having to get used to new things last second. Many people here (myself included) work on a tight schedule and when I see dA's changed something ---ANYTHING---I immediately state to myself "dude, I just don't have time to figure this out..." and do not submit anything on that day. In this case it turned out to only be user symbols, but before I had a few hours to kill reading a few journals, I did nothing new here. I couldn't afford to have my time cut in half or worse because they changed the arrangements on me without telling me first.

~ Why must the submit page be white? It's so heartless and soulless... not the color to make you feel that your art is welcome to the community. It feels repellant. And that shocked me. If you had told me that I'd feel that way over a simple color, I'd have called you daffy. Then I experienced it. I'm still stunned it's so effectively... hurtful. Same for the stash, but I can deal with that since it's a "quick dumpoff" for art, not the "welcome" page for art.

I'm sorry to prattle on about 2 irrelevant matters, but in chatting with some other deviants I find them feeling the same way.

Why cant dA just tell us a bit in advance what they're going to change and when the change is coming?

Why does the submission page, meant to welcome our art, instead feel as though it's rejecting the art through emotionless white?

What was wrong with it being "deviant green" which we all love?

((I know it's not your fault, so please don't feel I'm chewing you out--from what I can tell, you're a very sweet person ;) ))

Thanks for reading;
